River of Yesteryear
Colonial Living History Event

Location: River Bend Park
Historic Downtown Louisburg, NC
Saturday, October 20, 2018
10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Take a step back into colonial times in North Carolina during this FREE living history event! Learn how life was during the beginning years of North Carolina through interaction with Colonial exhibitors. Watch the blacksmith in action by the Tar River, learn how to cook as a colonist, spin wool, make a craft or play Colonial games. The potter spins his wheel to turn pots and cups and the woodworker talks about the importance of his craft. Some heirloom herbs and plants brought over on ships will be on display and discussed. Children can enjoy a pony ride ($3 – $5)!

One highlight of the event is the compelling debate between Thomas Jefferson (William Barker, noted professional actor from Williamsburg, VA) and Alexander Hamilton (Wally Hurst, professor of drama/actor) on “The New Constitution” at 1 pm & 2 pm.

Award winning author, Suzanne Adair will be on hand to talk about North Carolina’s role in the American Revolution. Maury York will give two Table Talks about the early beginnings of Louisburg in 1779.

Colonial Camp Flintlock will teach your children to write with a quill, toss a tomahawk, demonstrate cannon firing and more. Colonial cooking demonstrations are presented by Historic Interpretations. They will also offer to teach you a ‘reel dance’ if you like and talk about Colonial clothing of the day as the children enjoy Colonial games and more. Colonial camp stores are open for shopping in both areas.
